Seminars To Educate And Motivate!!
IOWA S.T.E.A.M. usually takes place the second week in November. Its purpose is to help educate officers and members on their duties as officers as well as to help them to understand what ABATE is all about. The seminar also helps to renew enthusiasm and motivation to the tasks at hand. All ABATE officers are strongly encouraged to attend but the workshops are open at no cost to all ABATE members.
The seminar starts on Friday with registration and a special general session workshop followed by a hospitality get together to encourage people to get to know members from other districts. Saturday morning starts with registration and a set of early bird workshops for those who like to start the day early. They are followed by the Opening Ceremony, which is a general session with special speakers. All members attending are asked to attend this general session. After Opening Ceremony there are usually two or three more sessions of workshops. Saturday night there is an awards banquet where we honor those who have made special contributions for ABATE in the past year. For those who want to expand their wardrobe, ABATE inventory will be for sale all weekend. The weekend ends with the BOD meeting on Sunday morning.
HEARTLAND S.T.E.A.M. is a regional seminar for the officers and members of the heartland region (MRO) motorcycle rights organizations, the AMA, and the MRF. The heartland region consists of Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakotaand South Dakota. S.T.E.A.M. stands for "Seminar to Educate and Motivate". Its purpose is to help educate states MRO officers and members how to work with and be leaders in the political arena. The seminar also brings together the various states MROs to encourage discussion on political issues pertaining to Motorcycle rights. These discussions provide insight to those states fighting those issues in their legislatures and gives them fresh ideas and the motivation to deal with them. Heartland S.T.E.A.M. takes place in the spring. Timing is determined by a general consensus of the attending state coordinators and directors. Each year a different state takes its turn hosting the seminar. The states are asked to each teach a workshop if possible
The seminar is open to all motorcyclists. There is a charge for attending the workshops, which covers the cost of the banquet. Attendees are responsible for the costs of their hotel rooms. Hotel room reservations are to be made at the host hotel. Information for the seminar can be obtained from the hosting state MRO.
The format for the seminar is similar to Iowa S.T.E.A.M. with registration and hospitality on Friday night. Saturday there is registration, an early bird workshop, and a general session with speakers and the various states MRO’s and national organizations reporting on their activities, more workshops followed by the banquet and a silent and live auction. The seminar ends on Sunday morning with another general session. Everyone is encouraged to attend Heartland S.T.E.A.M. As this is a regional seminar it’s a great way to meet and to learn from our brothers and sisters from our surrounding states.
